A small trusted recovery support circle in a calm community room

StepSquad

A private, calm support app for small trusted recovery groups.

Stay meaningfully connected between meetings without turning recovery support into another public performance space.

Support should be easier to reach and easier to maintain.

Many group chats and social apps feel noisy, performative, or too broad. StepSquad is meant to feel smaller, more personal, and more grounded.

The goal is not to create another social network. It is to make trusted support steadier in ordinary days and more available when someone needs care.

Tools for real contact, with room to use the app on your own.

Plenty of features available to a solo user, add another user to your squad for more free tools.

Accounts & access

A simple, private way to get started and stay in control.

  • Phone-number OTP login
  • Optional squad invite code during signup
  • Display name or nickname
  • Optional recovery profile: email, visibility, sobriety date, and willingness to sponsor
  • Biometric app unlock
  • Terms acceptance, account hiding, logout, and permanent deletion

Squads

Small, trusted circles with the tools to care for one another.

  • Create or join a squad with an invite code
  • View and switch between squads
  • Invite someone to a specific squad, optionally by phone number
  • Member roles and activity status
  • Admin member management and moderation
  • Users can remain in the app without belonging to a squad

Home & daily practice

A quiet place to see what needs attention today.

  • Check-in candidates: members who have gone longest without direct contact
  • Newly created set of daily reflections
  • Personal reflection writing and saving
  • Browse recent reflections or attach one to a chat message
  • Squad gratitude activity, open support requests, member list, and recent-contact information
  • Quick access to private messages

Gratitude

A personal practice that can also be shared with the squad.

  • Multiple gratitude entries per day
  • Personal and squad gratitude views
  • Optional photos where supported
  • Edit or delete your own applicable entries according to the current client flow
  • All entries expire after 30 days, just like all user-generated content

Chat & private messages

Direct contact without a public feed or discovery layer.

  • One main group chat per squad with text and reflection attachments
  • Edit and delete messages
  • Server-side history retains prior message versions
  • One-to-one PM threads between squad members
  • PM expiry policy, edit/delete support, and server-side message history
  • Report and block controls, plus moderation tools for authorized users

Support signaling

Make it easier to ask for the kind of connection you need.

  • Request Talk now, Meetup, Meeting, or Sharing
  • Other squad members can respond to or resolve requests
  • Open requests appear on Home and are intended to receive priority treatment

A directory and an event record, not a judgment engine.

Meetings

  • Browse and search an independent meeting directory
  • View meeting details, members, phone lists, and commitment holders
  • Join or leave meetings
  • Meetings can assign commitments to members
  • Owners and editors can update meeting details, transfer ownership, and assign human-readable features or codes
  • Create a meeting with its name, fellowship/type, day, times, address, state, ZIP, and description

Attendance verification

  • GPS checks store raw latitude/longitude, accuracy when available, and a resolved address when available
  • A Court Card commitment holder, meeting owner, or Newcomers commitment can display a unique QR code for each meeting window
  • A StepSquad attendee scan creates an independent attendance event
  • QR codes are valid from 30 minutes before a meeting through 30 minutes after it ends
  • View attendance history, export a report, or delete all records with confirmation
  • Attendance records remain until the user deletes them

Quiet by design. Clear about what is not here.

Private and invite-based, built for small trusted recovery groups

No social feed, public discovery, followers, likes, ads, gamification, or engagement tricks

No background or midway attendance scans, radius enforcement, or automatic attendance verdicts

No app-only referral invites or automatic app-store referral tracking

No court/IOP-specific policy logic

All user-generated content expires after 30 days
